Oculoplastic Surgery
Skin cancers frequently occur on the eyelids and/or in other difficult areas around the eyes, and require Mohs surgery for complete curative treatment. The post-Mohs surgery defects often result in complex reconstructive surgery. This surgery is performed by Oculo Plastic Surgeons, eye specialists (Ophthalmologists) who have undertaken additional training in ocular reconstruction.
Typically patients will have their cancer treated with Mohs surgery in the morning and will have the oculoplastic reconstructive surgery in the afternoon of the same day.
Generally, patients with these cancers are referred for Mohs surgery by the Oculoplastic Surgeon.
